Addressing Challenges at the Niagara Falls Summer Street Emergency Shelter: A Police Perspective

Since mid-December, the Niagara Regional Police have been actively responding to calls for service at the Summer Street emergency shelter in Niagara Falls, raising concerns within the community. Const. Jesse Vujasic highlighted a significant volume of 74 calls for service since Dec. 18, attributing these to issues such as needles, garbage, and drug-related incidents.

The Niagara Regional Police Service is closely monitoring and responding to ongoing community complaints regarding the operations at the Summer Street emergency shelter in Niagara Falls. Concerns raised include incidents involving needles, accumulation of garbage, and drug usage and overdoses. Const. Jesse Vujasic emphasized that the police have been called to the shelter 74 times since December 18, indicating a pressing need for addressing these challenges effectively.
